What does it mean when my Zodiac sign is "fixed"?

What does it mean when my Zodiac sign is "fixed" versus "cardinal" and "mutable"?

I have recently checked my Zodiac sign the further understand my knowledge of Zodiac Personalities. I had noticed something I had not noticed before. At the very beginning it says: Scorpio is a fixed/water sign. I do know what it means to be water, but I am unsure about the "fixed" part of it. Any explanations? What does it mean when my Zodiac sign is "fixed"?
My astrology book says:

"Fixed - One of the three qualities under which the signs of the zodiac are classified. The three qualities are cardinal, fixed, and mutable. Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius are the fixed signs and comprise the fixed quadruplicity. In astrology, the fixed quality signifies persistence, single-mindedness, determination, and resourcefulness."

Hope that helps. What does it mean when my Zodiac sign is "fixed"?
People belonging to the fixed signs are dominant in their characteristics. The way I understand it, Fixed signs cannot be paired with another Fixed sign. There are 4 Fixed signs in the Zodiac, one for each elemental group, just the same thing with Cardinal and Mutable signs.

My research says:

Fixed Signs are at the height of the four seasons. Fixed Signs are associated with stamina, perseverance and strength and said to be, by nature, inert. However, they are also associated with inflexiblity. Individuals born under the four Fixed Signs of the Zodiac are thought to be determined, powerful, natural leaders, purposeful, reliable, loyal and self-confident but also occasionally stubborn and immovable, with a tendency to get stuck in ruts. They supposedly pursue their goals with dogged persistence and have a great power of concentration. According to astrologers, Fixed Signs tend to direct their energies inward rather than outward. What does it mean when my Zodiac sign is "fixed"?
These are "over generalizations"...but maybe this will give you some

thing to "get a handle on" the topic:

Cardinal Sign people can tend to try to take the position of leader

(more often than not) and may tend to start stuff (like business start

-up). They can tend to "forge a new path" as well.

Fixed Sign people tend to like Sability. They will maintain a business

once started by a Cardinal (who then sold it because they're bored

with the "humdrum" of no novel problems to solve). Most Fixed

people don't like surprises (unless it's a birthday party). Fixed Sign

people tend to prefer "known problems" (with "known solutions").

Common Sign people tend to be followers, and will examine (with

varying degrees of close-ness) both sides of debates to guage the

accuracy. Common Sign people tend to apply this proclivity towards

Contrast and Comparison to almost everything they do. They make

no "snap" decisions.
Fixed-means exactly that. You're fixed in one position. You're the type to be a supervisor to tell others to get things done while you observe the proceedings.

Stability is also an accurate term to use. However, fixed %26amp; cardinal signs are very vibrant personalities. (I have both in my family of origin. I'm a mutable %26amp; act as the communicator btw the two!)

There are many levels to astrology, as you've discovered beyond just the sign %26amp; elementals. Plenty of websites offer further explanations into fixed, mutable, cardinal. A very quick, detailed but easy one is: www.bobmarkastrologer.com

Used bookstores and Barnes %26amp; Noble have excellent books to explore this topic further. They go into great depth %26amp; you can see what you're getting as opposed to an online store. There are also specific stars associated w/each, moons, planets, gemstones, plants etc. The book is basically an encyclopedia. I can't recall the name of it, mine is packed up in storage right now or I'd give you the title. If you find that type of book it will greatly enhance your journey %26amp; learning experience!
