How do people who are born on the cusps of two zodiac signs determine which sign they should belong to?

I am right on the dividing line of cancer and leo, what does that make me?How do people who are born on the cusps of two zodiac signs determine which sign they should belong to?
Sun sign astrology talks about being "on a cusp" but in real, traditional astrology, you're either one or the other. Your Sun can only be in one place at a time...being "on a cusp" would be like cutting yourself physically in half and living in two houses...looks good in cartoons but not possible in real life.

You can find your true Sun by looking at a planetary table called an ephmeris. Here's a link to a reliable online set: http://www.astro.com/swisseph/swepha_e.h鈥?/a>

But it's easier to have the site do all the hard work for you and calculate it. Here's a few sites that perform that task for free:

Astrologers have subdivided each Sign into periods of approximately ten days. These divisions are known as the "decans" or "decantes" and cover modifications of individual traits, attributed to minor planetary influences, which temper or blend with the ruling influence of the period.

Therefore, looking up the interpretation of the 3rd Decan of Cancer will take into account any Leo attributes--that is, if you are on the Cancer side of the cusp. If you are on the Leo side of the cusp, you should look up the 1st Decan of Leo.

3RD DECAN OF CANCER

The Third Decan of Cancer is also known as the Pisces Decante and the "Week of the Persuader." The influence of Neptune, one of the secondary planets governing this Decan, can induce some unique and interesting characteristics but chiefly adds much to everyday creativity and imagination which is useful in the general creative process. This can be of great advantage since it provides natives of Cancer with the ability to employ their inherent good taste with wardrobe and make-up, as well as in the selection of embellishments for the personal environment. Third Decan subjects might be good interior decorators, window dressers, gardners or landscape artists. They are also often talented with a paintbrush, musical instrument, sewing machine or sculpting clay. In short, these natives appreciate most art forms and generally have an excellent sense of rhythm. In order to achieve greatest happiness and efficiency, Third Decan Cancer individuals must attune their personalities to the beat of life itself. Of all Cancer individuals, it is those of this Third Decan who are likely to be the most sensitive, prone to laugh easily or cry with the minimum amount of triggering. Thus, it is vital that these natives avoid negative people and negative environments. Falling under the jurisdication of both Neptune and the Moon (primary governing planet of this Decan), these subjects are inclined to "soak up" practically everything that is around them. Third Decan Cancer natives tend to be somewhat private by nature and may need to work a little harder in order to bring their many talents and abilities to actual fruition. They are probably fairly well-adjusted to accepting the fact that they will generally experience delays and setbacks more often than most others. These natives are the most romantic and idealistic of Cancer individuals when it comes to matters of the heart. However, it will be necessary to exercise at least a little extra practicality to avoid involvement in emotional alliances that are going nowhere. Some Third Decan individuals also tend to be heavily influenced by Jupiter (the other secondary planet governing this Decan) which provides much strength to the character. Nonetheless, the influence of the increasingly intense nature of the Moon will always be apparent, even though Jupiter can furnish good judgment and steadiness to an otherwise fluctuating personality. Indeed, when needed, Jupter is able to stir Third Decan Cancer natives to action. Commercial success is not unusual for these individuals, provided they refuse to be swayed by the vacillating Lunar influence. Otherwise, they may become egotistical and talkative, being far too concerned with trifles to accomplish great things. The character of this Third Decan Cancer subject may be classified as that of a spiritually-attuned dreamer...one who is in love with glamor and possesses a creative imagination that could degenerate into escapism when the mood is "blue." On the positive side, those who fall within the jurisdication of this Decan can be caring rescuers with many artistic talents. Such individuals adore music, dance and romance and tend not to get their feelings hurt too easily. Water is of paramount importance to these natives they will undoubtedly be happiest near the sea or a lake. There is a tendency here to put on weight and these individuals benefit greatly from education and travel. The motto of the Third Decan of Cancer is "Research."

1ST DECAN OF LEO

The First Decan of Leo is also known as the Leo Decante and the "Week of Authority." This Decan is the most typical of its native Sign, meaning that individuals born during this period possess a tremendous amount of added staying power. Once these subjects set out to accomplish something, they will persist regardless of encountered obstacles, until success is attained. Added to this determination is a driving ability which helps supply the energy and stamina necessary for such persistance. The personality and physical appearance of these First Decan Leo natives has a certain brightness and sparkle often envied by others who are not so blessed. There is an accented personal pride associated with this Decan...a pride easily noticed by anyone who is aware of the erect walk and upward tilt of the head. When these Leo individuals arrive upon the scene, everyone is immediately aware of the regal presence and naturally tends to respect, honor and make room. Since command of the spotlight is so easily achieved, these Leo natives need to exercise care that they do not overdo or abuse such a privilege. It is easy for others to experience envy or resentment toward them. Thus, First Decan individuals should practice giving those around them a small portion of the limelight from time-to-time...if they wish to be as well-liked and highly regarded as they appear to desire. There will probably be some natural acting talent and ability here and it is not unusual for those who fall within the jurisdiction of this First Decan to be involved in the theater in some fashion...or utilizing these talents quite positively in other vocations as well as in everyday personal life. These Leo natives are gregarious souls who fail to feel fulfilled unless they can relate freely and frequently to others in both their business and personal lives. It is imperative that First Decan Leo subjects avoid accepting any role or position which would necessitate them becoming anything resembling a recluse or too private of a person. The influence of the Sun (primary governing planet of this Decan) is dominant here, but any waverings will allow the gloom of Saturn (secondary planet governing this Decan) to take hold. Thus, these natives may become boastful and arrogant, sometimes resorting to violence if ideas are opposed. Through contol of such moods, the knowledge afforded by Saturn can be added to the power of the Sun, resulting in individuals who are generous and steadfast by nature, free from worry and able to override misfortune. These are also warm individuals who love to surprise and please those around them. Subjects of this First Decan are very interested in sports and family, but can be amazingly stubborn when they believe they are "in the right." They also like to keep things and people in a "straight line" according to accepted rules and are somewhat predictable in their actions. First Decan Leo individuals require respect from friends and family almost as much as they need air and water. They also harbor a great desire to distinguish themselves in their chosen fields, express themselves in a creative fashion and find that "certain someone" with whom they can share it all. The motto of the First Decan of Leo is "Rulership."How do people who are born on the cusps of two zodiac signs determine which sign they should belong to?

Cancer/Leo

July 19 to July 23

Cancer is the fourth sign of the Zodiac; Leo is the fifth. Those born on the Cancer/Leo cusp have the vitality and ambition to be successful in their creative endeavors. Creativity is one of their keywords, and their caring nature ensures that the benefits of their imaginative powers help others. Cancer/Leos turn to nurturing the family group and take pride in their warm hospitality. They are emotional and traditional, interested in heredity and ancestors. Cancer/Leos can be prominent on stage and in film, as their natural ability to act and their flamboyance and love of attention make them naturals at fame.

The astrological symbol of Cancer is the Crab; for Leo, it's the Lion. Cancer/Leos go through life with a strong shell around them that is not easily broken. However, Cancer/Leos are the first to express emotion in any given situation -- the first to laugh and the first to tears. In this way, the Cancerian influence exemplifies the cardinal quality assigned to it. They also have a strong ability to see their projects through to the end. In this way, Leo exemplifies the fixed quality assigned to it. Cancer/Leos are good organizers and tend to be popular, even inspiring.

Cancer is ruled by the Moon, and Leo is ruled by the Sun. In ancient times, the Moon, which represents fertility and instinct, was perceived as the Great Mother, responsible for nurturing all life. The Moon controls the tides and all water on Earth, and it has a strong effect on human emotions. Cancer and Cancer/Leos tend to be more sensitive to the movement of the Moon through the zodiac than are other signs, their moods changing with the Moon's passage. In ancient times, the Sun was believed to be the center of the Universe, the core of existence, the Father. The Sun generates warmth and keeps life on Earth moving. Leos and Cancer/Leos sometimes feel they are the center of the universe, and sometimes they are! They are gregarious and social, fun-loving and live life with enthusiasm. Generally domestic and peaceful, they have strong emotional drives and won't sit still when loved ones are threatened. The Sun and Moon, mother and father, day and night; Cancer/Leos are all of these things, and finding a way to express the entire continuum is both a challenge and a much-needed emotional release.

The element associated with Cancer is Water. Water Signs are emotional: they tend to respond to the world through emotion. The element associated with Leo is Fire. Fire Signs are physical and tend to respond to the world through action. Cancer/Leos are very intuitive and jump headfirst into life, without worrying whether their latest goal is realistic or practical. For them, everything about life is Big with a capital B, and if drama and courage is required to meet their goals, they have both in abundance. Their warm and caring nature is very sensitive to other people's harshness. Cancer/Leos are cheerful and self-assured, sometimes to the point of living in a fantasy world. They are always happy as long as someone is paying attention to them!

Cancer/Leos have a strong association with food. They are very imaginative and sensitive, making them excellent amateur chefs. Some go on to make a career out of cooking. Pleasure is important to those born on the Cancer/Leo cusp, and they like to spend money to feel good. Cancer/Leos tend to enjoy physical exercise, finding that sweat helps them counter the stress inherent in their emotional nature. They prefer to play in groups, rather than solo. They are too sociable to enjoy solitary running or weight lifting, and they much prefer team sports or group exercise.

In love relationships, Cancer/Leos top the charts in almost every area, from devotion to romance. The great strength of the Cancer/Leo is in their creativity and generosity with others. Sometimes these qualities combine, resulting in thoughtful gifts or unique solutions to problems. Cancer/Leos emotional orientation to life help them understand the difficulties their loved ones must work through.
